Pride: A poem

What at all do we resolutely take pride in

Our achievements and our material possessions?

Is our life only worth the meaningless riches

That we wish to pursue, without disheartening glitches?

Our successes live on forever in our memories

Our time is spent in defeating adversaries

We are consumed by revelry with our wins

Even if it only viciously compounds our sins

Is this the true value of our gullible souls?

That generosity and empathy we cannot uphold

What we then aspire for is the shine of artificial gold

While we forget our true missions as life unfolds

True pride should be in integrity and humility

Large-heartedness, philanthropy and moral dignity

When we answer to the calling of divine consciousness

And let go of ambition, greed and seek contriteness

That we must view corruption with heightened levity

That we must seek utmost spiritual purity

Only our pride in goodness will save us from the precipice

Of damnation, and secure for us eternal happiness

I think it is a spiritual experience, my doctors think otherwise. I am a deeply spiritual person and keep having experiences with otherworldly realms.
