My voices and visions: A poem

I had voices and visions ever since childhood

They can sometimes be bad and mostly be good

I’m blessed with the sacred, wrestle with the profane

With all these musings, life can’t be mundane

History has it that some people have what others lack

A case in point is the story of Joan of Arc

She recognised the king and called his bluff. Hark!

Since then, she led from the front, never let low her spark

Even with the prospect of the stake, she did not retract

Her mission was undone, but she did not take it back

All illustrious men have inspiration that comes from above

Those that answer to the calling are replete with God’s love

Fear not suffering, even if in nobility you fall

In destiny’s eyes, the good stand ever so tall

My doctors tell me I’m a hapless schizophrenic

I refrain from telling them it’s what makes me tick

Voices and visions are not the signs of the mentally sick

It’s my conversation with paradise, that lights up my candle’s wick

Hi, I am Monte Cyril Rodrigues and live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a retired journalist. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I've had voices and visions all my life. I think it is a spiritual experience, my doctors think otherwise. I am a deeply spiritual person and keep having experiences with otherworldly realms.
