The joys of giving, and gratitude: A poem

Seldom do we realise that there is immense joy in giving

That in such sharing we find the truest meaning of living

Those that have and selfishly only seek what they are entitled

should bear witness to the magnanimity of those who have a little

They that give, however, should not expect any returns for their deeds

Nor seek accolades or praise, but remember it is in the need

to pay back destiny or the ones from whom one had received

over past lives. That this is the way in which fate does heave

In any case, one ought to give from the choices that are all too sublime

Not for returns of benevolence, that may not happen in one lifetime

That to harp about one’s deeds takes away the good from the goodness

And leaves it in the hands of Satan, for claiming without astuteness

For Satan heeds those that voice aloud the honour of their acts

And God watches and commends those that with him have a silent pact

But those who have been in receipt of favours and gifts bountiful

should always remember the benefactor and be eternally grateful

For every soul has a record and destiny is the ultimate record-keeper

And every rebirth manifests the story of who is the giver and who is the receiver
