Mum: A poem

I thought you would last forever

For your strength and love were an endless river

In the darkness of night, you breathed your last

The woods of your life have now become the past

I eulogise as I tremble, shaking with grief

The storm came and left the city bereft

Millions are dying of a new fever

Your time was long but albeit fewer

Winds come with clouds, and clouds with rain

Innocents have to suffer, and suffer in vain

God knows his gifts are in the talent of sacrifice

It is in giving even when the dove of your own aspiration dies

The sun will shine on us even if it’s dark

Peeping through like dawn is your spirit like a spark

You are a memory, but your presence feels so strong

Your resilient sense of duty will live on for long
