To all ye pooches: A poem

The tide of love that does swell

Like an ocean out of a well

The lonely have a mighty crutch

Sunlight from a soothing touch

A sky of stardust on a floor

The first face that greets the door

They are not just a means to an end

A little care reaps rich dividends

Unconditional and loyal, they send

Warmest wishes like a trustworthy friend

A seamless symbol of intense purity

In our lives that bear no clarity

Their time so short, they then wait

Patiently for us at heaven’s gate
