Patience: A poem

When loneliness at doors does sadly knock

When rejection and denial the driveway block

When answers and prayers are only tepid words

When clocks age and break and go unheard

When virtues go unnoticed and bend like burdens

When hard work in unrequited corners lies huddled

When dishonest hearts clutch at the rewards

And corrupt men have all the Aces in the pack of cards

How justice is a switch without a current

When fortune to the good plays mighty truant

When integrity is laid bare by treacherous motive

It is time to turn the page to the chapter of the passive

For fortitude is a gift worthy of the intrepid

Prognosis for the silent is eternity’s rapid

That it is worth the wait to be stoically patient

For the ultimate bounty is for those who heed to conscience
