Hunger in the wilderness: A poem

Hunger’s subjugation is a mighty blessing

The unsuspecting wild is rife with hunger’s stalking

Need and instinct are the bane of an Eden’s purity

But who can condemn a mere response to duty?

For, animals just follow an innocent dream

They are only humble to the season’s stream

When rivers dry, even crocodiles lie

With their leather and bones in the scorching to fry

But the jungle’s ghost becomes a morbid pun

in humanity’s relentless, restless churn

A curse is hunger when it takes a soul

even when there’s ample food in the bowl

The rich and powerful who are always famished

avalanche ambition so that integrity vanished

An animal’s hunger shouldn’t raise a question mark

what civilisation’s hollow belly seeks in the dark
