Dear Casula: A poem

Dear Casula, days are bright even as they are cold

The joy of canine beauty in your eyes to behold

If purity could launch a thousand and one ships

When the seas were rough, you were joy on our lips

You came like the laughter of late summer flowers

Where the verdict of benevolent spirits in those hours

gave you to us, a dark coat silken tender to touch

There is poetry in the little brevity of life so much

If you are in pain, how could love be so much in vain?

That incomprehensible sadness and helplessness became

And to ask the powers to brush you with safe and sure healing

Such prayer comes from the soul, with gratefulness for you feeling
