Fly away, my darling Casula: A poem

Fly away pretty face

To the arms of eternity race

Take death out of your vase

And with fresh flowers replace

If you had spoken just a word

in it, the song of love would be heard

Your chalice, to us, was that of laughter

A spring relives even after

That you should regale paradise

with your ever-so beautiful eyes

In them, the music of love never dies

Take what lies over the divide

A seeming loss is but a cheer

of a darling pet, O so dear

For, it is certain and is clear

a day will come when you will forever be near

And your flower suffered illness’ thorns

But it was always happiness you adorned

That you will be gone, but will always be born

in meadows of cherished memories, like a glowing dawn

Little miracles give us faith’s access

It is what we cherish, not what we possess

Your unconditional love, for our souls, was sate

We wish bounteous pastures await you at perpetuity’s gate
