From time immemorial, it besieged all lands
Without it, fertile oases turn to desert sands
When the skies weep, cornucopia leaps
and the weather gods are thanked in heaps
It is welcome rain, when the clouds have rolled
To the toiling farmer, it’s a shower of gold
In the city, black umbrellas raised like flags
Potholed, pockmarked streets like ugly eye bags
The homeless pray for mercy in its torrent
For the nervy driver, it is added torment
Rivers slither and rush like belly-filled snakes
Dams need courage against overflowing lakes
It bathes forests and fields, and high-rises tall
It is unmanageable for scientists, governments, all
Water is hotter now, with the icecaps going bare
Will we be awash with sins, when there’s water everywhere?
wow monte. too good
