Have the laurel or eat the lotus?: Just for laughs

The workaholic may fancy a progression of work in clockwork precision, but the lotus eater may as well keep time for the welcome ring of the bell that calls time out. It’s for one to judge who’s clockwise between the procrastinator and the one who’s out to beat the clock. What would you rather, the laurel or the lotus?

Time has always been the obsession of man. Plato once wrote in the Greek Anthology: Time brings everything. The optimist would prefer to say that time heals everything. However, we all know that time governs everything. It was the sundial that set off humanity’s endeavour to mark time. Ever since, humanity’s success in charting out time has gone from strength to strength. Today, we are so accurate that we can tell whether the earth’s rotation is slowing or quickening.

The alarm clock that often shatters your sweet morning dreams was invented by a Hampshire clockmaker Levi Hutchins who, himself, found it hard to wake up. So, if you have none to blame for the dream-shattering six o’clock alarm, you now know who is culpable.
