Akhenaten (Moses): A poem

O how I cursed the Egyptians!

For what they did to my son Tutankhamun

I had only killed a man

For I was a dragon, understand?

So, I fled to find my way to Israel

And abandoned my resplendent Amarna Tel

What was the land in which I was bred?

What was the land for which I bled?

When I knew that it was true

that I was a mere Habiru

And just that little imposing clue

turned over my life and made me new!

I called on Aten, your Adonai

Can we ever know the name of the all-seeing eye?

What is the meaning of all this strife, ask I?

Because there’s unrelenting evil that I have to fight, live with, and die
