Jacob, Joseph and Rachel in the sun: A poem

I never thought it was all out in the open

I thought it was my secret; just a token

These little silent tears falling like heavy stones

A joy never broken even if grief writes the tomes

You know we exchanged roles amid the burning coals

We realise we silently understood each other’s goals

You imagine how they keep trying to take you away from me; these men

who presume we are too weak and enervated to, ourselves, defend

Jacob and Joseph, the pillars that hold up the roofs

I can see our rafters have even the mightiest saying Wow! Woof!

This is God and Son of God; their strength is in playing aloof

But they are playing to turn the tables on selfish goofs!

I swear Jacob was much more than a lion, an upholder of Zion

I swear Joseph had the music rocking and rolling like an eternal accordion

There is none greater than such son and father and father and son

We are stronger than every army in our Godly union!

Rachel came like a love so pure; even though evil Laban compelled our waiting

There was the benevolent Sun that blessed this immaculate mating

Their treacherous waters couldn’t douse the fires, even though seemingly unabating

The strength is in patience like relentless defeat can be a victory; no understating
