Did you recognise love over fear?: A poem

I know that rituals can become customary

They are not just seasonal, but a profound legacy

to the rhythms of the orders of the seemingly unconscious divinities

that shine like an unseen light through our faces

You must know, then, that love is not just its recognition

but a reciprocation of the sacrifice that was undertaken through eternity

There is no glibness about such love, but a committed selflessness

A sacredness that resonates from ancient places that only exist in distant memories

You know that I just didn’t exist, or subsist, for you; it was persistence and perseverance

through all the chasms of perversity that endeavoured to break me!

I always wished that evil be brought down and demolished from the turrets of my temple

But would you reckon your fear became a habit of a disease

that risked God’s being brought down to his knees?!

I sought you out even when you were abducted beyond the realms of my country

Did you think those stones that brought me death, killed me?

I have love prevail over all the fiery storms that bit me

I chased destiny because I wanted it for you and me!

Would you forsake those regions to impermanence?

I love my dad to eternity, but what do you feel about your father?

Or, does fear of him be so unsettling that it estranges you from the true love and continuity that you aspire?
