Quote the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius:
“The happiness of your life depends
on the quality of your thoughts”
Of course, an Emperor knows the grace of his own wisdom
And Marcus, you were the least of the tyrannical Emperors
But would you say the gladiators were happy
when they had to face-off with imminent death!
And did you ever imagine the slaves were content with their tortuous slavery?
What about the victimisation of subjected lands?
What is the value of happiness amid the contraptions of evil?
And is the happiness of conspirators legitimate?
Can you be happy amid the tribulation of evil taking your soul and the souls of those that you love?
Is there happiness in the convenience of wearing blinkers?
Is God happy when the truth is siphoned away from him by evil
and laid to waste in the confines of injustice?
Do you corroborate with the happiness in colluding with lies?
Would you prefer to beget the happiness of pre-empting Kingdom come?
Would the accents of the Wishmaster be your happiness in a delusional dystopian utopia?
Would you blame the ones who resist evil as punishing everyone for sacrificing happiness?
Is happiness common ground, or only for the privileged?
Can the victory of criminals bring about everyone’s happiness?
And if thoughts can make us happy, what about our actions?
Did anyone contemplate duty at all?
Can you be happy when others have a power over you; and worse, abuse you with it
Do you fancy the gravity of predicament; and be happy in stoicism?
An Emperor happens to sit on a throne and not be subject!
Dear Aurelius, I must finally add, happiness is no aura or aurora without truth or justice!
