Jacob thinks of Joseph!: A poem

You know when it rained like hell

and the Nile swelled up, like an asp

that had overeaten, and the alligators

even took some lives of cultivators

Joseph looked at the skies, and informed

the Pharaoh that there would be years of drought

so, to stockpile for the drought years to follow!

And so, it was that the rainy year

was followed by years of drought. So grateful

was the Pharaoh to Joseph, that he made

Joseph his chief. And later, Joseph’s

daughter was married to the Pharoah’s son!

Of course, the Egyptian priesthood didn’t like it one bit!

But the Egyptian and Habiru lines were thus destined to merge!

Did Joseph feel the pain, of moving to this new rich foreign land

and thereby, losing his father Jacob in this lifetime?

Jacob the grand guardian of Israel! The lion of Judah!

But such is the miracle of fate, that the broken lineage is once more restored!

Was not Jacob, the father of Joseph, Mary’s husband

And so, Yakov (James the Just) the son of Joseph

And Jacao was the father of Salvador

Yes, they have tried to take away my Dad from me much too often

Rachel should know! Sarah should know!

And I have a vision of a baby boy swaddled in muslin

longing to be touched by the embrace of my soul

And if I dream that I can make it real

Some day, some time, a moment in time

fully knowing that my dad is the flesh of my soul!
