It is being touted that social media is a platform that engenders a great deal of misinformation and evil in society. But the question arises: Is mainstream media a safe, reliable platform, in any case?
Mainstream media takes upon itself the role of being the moral police of governments and the public of the world, at least the western world. But there are gargantuan pitfalls, when mainstream media subjects the public to their own brand of uncontrolled bias.
The Left-wing media blitz shouted down Donald Trump (who stood no chance with the onslaught against him), portraying him as a raving, ranting lunatic. Donald Trump was totally blind-sided, not that I suggest he was an exemplary president..
In Australia, the ABC news channel is responsible for absolutely biased reporting on much too frequent an occasion. Too frequent to deserve being a recipient of government funding.
When in March 2021, the Labor Party was the subject of allegations of sexual harassment in the party-room, ABC channel simply ignored that story. Yet, they went hammer and thongs at the Liberal Party for claims of sexual harassment in the Liberal Party room.
ABC News Channel gave much media coverage on the story of Australians of Indian origin being stranded in India due to the pandemic and the ban on travel from India, because they wanted to garner public opinion against the federal government – that it was apathetic. Are they taking onus now that Victoria, a Labor state, is in the throes of a Covid outbreak due to an arrival from India.
We live in times when our opinions are being swayed by a dangerously left-tilting media. It lays siege on governments that don’t sit on the same platform as itself. The fact that the media can make or break governments depending on which it is comfortable with, is itself a hazard to democracy – the very institution that gives the media its freedom. Media freedom is necessary, but an unbalanced media is not a necessary evil.
True the ABC needs to grow up and take responsibility for its words and actions and stop behaving like a brat. They need to respect Australia that as a nation we need to have facts rather than opinions and that is what they are being paid by us for.
