Ego and humility: A poem

When we are in bondage of our own sentiments

Then anger and pride be our hellish predicament

As we seek to vindicate all our false beliefs

And the anguish of hurting others should be no relief

What can we wish for but wilful rabid pursuits

The card of selfishness takes us away from the truths

No haloed ground can we stand on with power misused

It is the fallen soul that cannot discriminate the cruel from the good

That we ought to learn that we should lead by example

Let not rights be abused and duties be trampled

Ego and power are a lethal vindictive combination

In their throes only manifests the rape of the innocents

When we have erred, to seek sublime justice

To accept judgement and to reserve no malice

When the voice of the soul in humility is heard

That is the true beckoning of God’s eternal word
