Love and selflessness: A poem

Love is the verdant poetry of the soul

The gifts of caring and sharing on a roll

One depends on it when it comes to push and shove

It is a child’s secure trust and treasure trove

Love is the source of boundless energy

To be devoid of it is a miserable tragedy

Hate is lonely and to be lonely is cruel

In hate’s bastion, war and strife dwell

Those who deem they have little to love

are in rejection of the luminescence from above

Love involves altogether forgetting the self and to serve

for the benefit of those that benevolence deserve

But to punish for greater good in equal measure

is the consummation of duty not love’s erasure

Inevitably, love reaches completion in sacrificing and forgoing

That is the fulfilment of expectations of the all-knowing

I think it is a spiritual experience, my doctors think otherwise. I am a deeply spiritual person and keep having experiences with otherworldly realms.
