Instinct and the wisdom of intuition: A poem

How often do we wonder what makes each of us so distinct

Can we be judicious or do we fall prey to baser instinct

That memories of past lives form the basis of our beliefs

It is for us to judge what is good and what ills we relive

That as we wander amid life’s challenges we are armed with the grey

To shine the light through ourselves we must let conscience hold sway

To rein in instincts and seek mastery over self is the only peerless way

No matter the difficulties they entail, this is success begotten each day

For shrewdness in the material should not be at the cost of purity in the spiritual

Because morality, integrity and contriteness make for what is eternally vital

To use our instincts selfishly is to be unfortunately short-sighted

How we gain in one lifetime is not how our eventual fates are decided

Astuteness is not in garnering windfalls that are only too temporary

It is in percipient goodness that we clamber on to God’s territory

Let the wisdom of intuition help us perceive with perspicacity

That mortal benefits do not take us far when it comes to divine perpetuity

Hi, I am Monte Cyril Rodrigues and live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a retired journalist. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I've had voices and visions all my life. I think it is a spiritual experience, my doctors think otherwise. I am a deeply spiritual person and keep having experiences with otherworldly realms.
