Oh! to roll paradise’s dice: A poem

How do we seek justice and fairness in a world

that with corruption and immorality is verily blurred?

Where those who are virtuous have to cop torment

And pay a price and suffer without lament

Where those that accept graft are blessed with reward

And those that pursue money make evil their God

When those that are in power are with a lack of integrity shod

As the masses helplessly at their predicament nod

How those that are honest toil on with no return

And seldom have a chance at happiness, but to burn

in despair. When will there be at all payback time?

Justice for the deserving and retribution for those in crime

Do we stop to worry for a moment about our unfortunate yearnings?

Do we step back from revelling in misappropriated earnings?

Can we not attain the wisdom of altruistic goodness and find

that greater success is in resisting self-inflicted evil, and not be maligned?

That in such a pursuit it is for each of us to roll fortune’s benevolent dice

And manifest within and without the much-desired paradise
