Innocence and wisdom: A poem

Those who are intelligent but devoid of innocence

In the world of materialism go the full distance

For with worldly knowledge one can achieve great feats

Innocence, in turn, with failings and dismay is replete

Yet childhood is innocent and runs the risk of the abysmal valley

For it is malleable to evil designs and prey to great folly

Much cruelty and many crimes come from the hands of the innocents

Malevolence of propaganda can rid innocence of all things decent

It is important to educate innocence and make it wise

Such an endeavour will always see goodness on the rise

Wisdom from learning that is focused on the ethical

Will make future generations the beacons of progress vital

For we are bombarded by the media that corrupts innocence

Astuteness and judiciousness then are rendered reticent

It is important that we are wary of wily advocacy’s dictum

For it can make innocents civilisation’s greatest crash-victims

Hi, I am Monte Cyril Rodrigues and live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a retired journalist. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I've had voices and visions all my life. I think it is a spiritual experience, my doctors think otherwise. I am a deeply spiritual person and keep having experiences with otherworldly realms.
