To a selfless Dad: A poem

When you suffered and did not, even once, complain

Lest your near and dear ones feel your pain

You knew that success of life was in stoicism and strength

In the altruism and charity, the way you went

The mountains of large-heartedness that were shown

Were priceless jewels from a kind-hearted soul

For the joy of giving is in not expecting the returning

In the ingratitude of others gracefully accepting

For the true hero keeps the fires of his unacknowledged hearth churning

Even as the thankless seasons of life bring him little or nothing

The confidence of a leader is in this luminescent humility

The virtue of greatness is in his unflinching sense of duty

And the profound solidity of the earth is in its nurturing

The brilliance of the sun is in its selfless burning

You passed too early, as children we did not learn the lessons

But your legacy indeed is worth every blessing

  1. Bro – I cried reading this ode to Dad . He was such a great soul . We are lucky to be borne out of him …
So much of Dad you captured so finely in this small but very poignant verses
