Bravery: A poem

Cloaked are our eyes, but our minds are bare

Riches are our goals, but our souls are threadbare

The symphony of the conscience goes silent within ourselves

As we starve the inner lambs and feed outer wolves

Integrity is not weak-kneed, it is the steel of the bold

Goodness is a priceless treasure never to be sold

The mastery of the self is that gem when does shine

Then evil’s treachery cannot break the spine

Bravery is not the fire that fights wars over obsessions

It has allegiance to justice, like stone to a mansion

Victories can be many for those that wield power

But strength in adversity is what deserves the bouquet of flowers

Our values are coated with what the victors wrote in books

Brave were the silent defeated for what they honorably stood

Their blood is not wasted, providence has yet to see

The change of guard will swallow the status quo like the sea
