Foundations are built on sacrifice: A poem

Sacrifice is a vital food for the soul

Just like starving a little keeps the body whole

Suffering in need, indeed, is no masochism

A mother’s sacrifice comes from infinite wisdom

Those that pursue aggrandisement wear shoes with no shine

Looking for false glory is living with no spine

Appearances and lifestyle are but empty shells

It is in the grit of goodness that ring the resounding bells

Great foundations of civilisation are built on sacrifice

Be it that the perspiration of a lifetime didn’t see sunrise

It is in burning that dead wood becomes warming

The garden of posterity is out of a toiler’s labouring

The greatest warriors were those burnt at the stake

Not in one lifetime their bounties did they rake

Even God, despite his magnificence, goes unacknowledged and forgotten

But his grandeur is in being immanent in everything

Hi, I am Monte Cyril Rodrigues and live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a retired journalist. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I've had voices and visions all my life. I think it is a spiritual experience, my doctors think otherwise. I am a deeply spiritual person and keep having experiences with otherworldly realms.

  1. Too beautiful Monte . Brought tears to my eyes . Thinking of all those unsung heroes that I have come to read about and know about in my life
