Will you be mine, when…?: A poem

Will you be mine?

When the stars lose their shine

When the skies turn over

Like the underside of a cover

Will you greet me?

When dignity is a dead tree

When the desert of age

Sweeps over me with a rage

Will you console me?

When my four walls are misery

When with pain I lie awake

Will you my dead leaves rake?

Or will you drop me like a hot brick?

When even wisdom plays a trick

When I cannot anymore play the game

And leave me weeping in shame
