Tie the knot and end up in chains: Just for laughs

There could be too much of a slip between cup and lip where matrimony is concerned. And the bachelor who is entering the unsavoury deal, may just be his partner’s meal for life. For, tying the proverbial knot could mean ending up in chains. Consider the much-married Zsa Zsa Gabor’s wisdom. She once remarked: “A man is incomplete before marriage. After it, he is finished.” The shrewd lady behind the veil would hardly differ with that…Looking at her groom as raw material for the future.

At the wedding reception of the Lockhorns, the toastmaster kept referring to the groom as the broom. Not any among the bemused guests wondered why. The loud Mrs. Lockhorn kept indicating to the ring. “That’s you,” she reminded the hapless Mr. Lockhorn “…wrapped around my finger.”

Even Jane Austen cautioned the young bachelor of the aspiring spinster. “A lady’s imagination is very rapid. It jumps from admiration to love, and love to matrimony in a moment.” Yet some men are never put off by the prospect of kicking the bucket, as this limerick suggests: There was a man from Jaipore/ who married twice in a row/ for one, he said, wasn’t enough/ And twice was against the law.
