The philosophy of ants: A poem

If we had the philosophy of ants,

would we have too much on our hands?

Would we walk foot-naked on instincts’ sands

and hear their compelling orchestra’s strands?

If we were duty-bound like ants,

would we ceaselessly till our lands?

Would we ever wonder how flowers stand

and admire the rich rainbow’s bands?

Ants have an ideology, and so do bees

They save for the day good seasons cease

Work is their ethic, as they resolutely heave

Can we ever dispute what they believe?

We build grand structures and carve futures

Yet, we also have time for play and leisure

If animals had more than just mere instinct,

would it make humanity all that distinct?
