Remembering you, beautiful Mother: A poem

In the requiem, I feel the seeking expression

of a child who cannot do without umbrage

I say : “you are always with me in courage.”

A clear sky at my window, and a garden

at my door. I nod like approbating flowers

in a soft wind and their beds are filled

with life-giving salts. I was in your womb

always. You were like a flame in my breath

I didn’t believe in shadows, but love. This earth

is proud as a peacock in your forests

Even in times when I felt winless and wingless,

a soft wind lofted me into magic spheres.

The miracle duty in sacrifice I learned from you.

These tosses and turns of waves convinced

of their flight. A silent pride in the ride of eagles.

All the circles and rectangles of my life, the wood and the iron

I place at your feet.
