I sense the laughter among the trees
But can it blow all over like the breeze?
Humans have laughter clubs, say it’s medicine
Yet some laugh their guts over living in sin
My Mum and Dad smiled a lot, but seldom laughed
Their responsibilities and duties had them scarved
And there are grimaces for those who feel chaffed
Yes, life’s office is always poorly staffed
I can hear laughter in the waves and in the fields
But so much of the world is morose unconcealed
You may have a lot of laughter at a rollicking party
But ask yourself how much of that is hearty
A comic knows too well his awesome timing
And humour is always a welcome silver lining
Self-mockery is humility right to the rafter
And my Mum taught me that mocking others makes a mockery of laughter
I re read this again today as it struck a chord with me
