The beasts or us?: A poem 

Sometimes, I think 

of the immense pain 

of animals. 

Their constant hunger 

Their vulnerability to weather 

The cruelty of their existence 

And then I say: 

Take away their pain 

by exterminating all of them! 

And then I think and ask: 

Who is the happier? 

Who is the freer? 

Who is the more innocent? 

And then I think and say: 

Take away all our pain 

by exterminating all of us!
