I can see you in the sun
Your soul like a magnificent illuminated aura
Like a golden pearl hanging distinctly from the sky
Like a white and black adamantine embossed in my eye
All speckled in abstract beauty with your special gifts
I thought I knew that gift even a long time before you arrived
Even in the nineteen seventies, when it was just before my impulsive teens
grappling with little growing urges, forgetting a looming tryst
And yet, seeing what may have seemed, would be
far away in distant times like an apparition in déjà vu
coming knocking at my brains, like a serendipity with you
Did I see you then, in a hostelry locked in my brain(?)…
on a beach, where I’d reach, for wherewithal again and again to relive past and future
Sometimes, it may take someone else to make one’s winery of instincts mature
into the vintage antiquity of a delicatessen one really is!
Did I think I could never make you mine? O my?! O my?! That’s no shine!
I believe fate is a garden with your flowers? Are our paths so well-defined?
The future can never happen if the uniquest love is starved to die, then (?),
If you are lost to me, wouldn’t there be famine all over, among men?!
I can see the children picking up stones amid their infantine laughter
And I feel like the librarian permitting all that fun and games among my tomes
And Dad is there, Oh! How he is there!!!! What providential fortune!!!
And Mum to follow up, in a spring everywhere! To add more symphony to the tune!!!
Remember! I made it happen! More often than not!
I made it happen through every aeon past, like a narrative made to last!
The gravelly sound of treachery did not daunt the troubadour/ raconteur
Even if recorded history doesn’t place its veracity in the journeyperson’s soliloquy
I am never in strange destinies, kingdoms fraught with weirdness, alien cities
Because all my illusions of you are no mere snapshots rolled into cinematic film
Because we were corporeal, even if, sometimes, athletes preternaturally playing tennis with lacrosse racquets
There was somehow deuce (deus ex machina) and matchpoint for the canny superheroes above all that comic-tragedy!!!
