My baby girl, are we running to standstill?: A poem

(Some ideas are borrowed from U2’s song `Running to standstill’ (Joshua Tree)

I woke up with her in the fire, earth and air

And saw it was all there

The warmth, the love, the light, the sonne et lumiere

And I thought this was everything, everywhere

She had golden pearls on her fingers and in her hair

Like a bride with a comely stare

And I was burning like a steak rare

Burning like the sun, the stars, with my dare!

You know I am only a sesame seed

You know, however, I did eternally bleed

Did it only take one drop, a sweaty bead?

How do you value my deed?

I see twelve towers now

But is there a way out? Is there a way out?

I thought we could be freer, if we were all about

When they read my mind, do they think they have clout?

And do they then think they can pillory God, without doubt?

I think I am going to shout…going to scream and shout…

Till the Universe runs aground like a windmill

that has suddenly gone still, my will?!

Let it be that I am only doing it from my straitjacket at my window sill

For, I am shinier than the sun, I am brille

And who will ultimately foot the bill?

My Goddess, my baby girl, are we running to standstill?
