America: A poem

(Just an after-thought of Simon and Garfunkel’s America)

I have some real estate in my heart, does that set me apart?

I thought love was so awesome, but did I ever get into the act (or art?)

Before I got bowled over, all my love got whacked off the cart!

Sometimes, I think freedom has not many choices but just a wart!

If you stare from the windows of the Statue of Liberty

you can see the sea not the city; and do you then wonder if you’ve done your duty?

So many talk about rights, but do they imagine the bill also needs to be footy?

They tell me God loves America, how about the dream being nitty-gritty?!!

So many of you want to get across the Gran Chaco with a taco in El Paso!

I don’t smoke cigarettes anymore; can I still blow circles in borrowed territories?

I thought Australia was worthy, but I am just hanging out in the empty breeze!

I thought love was not endemic to boundaries, but treachery really happens to take all the foundries!

So, how are we apt in saying that we belong to haloed democracies?

I always believed enlightened Kings are better than your elected leaders of countries

I got love in my pocket, but I’ve got a rocket in my thought-socket

So, should I take or not take the ticket to the West, even if they say it is the best?!

Ask Putin if you want to put your values to the test?

China is on the onslaught, is it going to take all the rest?

Is America falling apart; or did it really make a fresh start?

Was America greater when Detroit made all the cars?

Elon Musk must wonder if he raised all the bars?

I just think I don’t know if I love democracy, so should I pine for the New Yorks or LAs or Confederate Americas?

I just simply think this upholding of democracy doesn’t deserve all your stars!

And some people who desired freedom ended up in impoverished Liberias!!!
