Did I come here to stay today?: A poem

Did I come here to stay today?

I could have gone the other way!

I am just walking in the dim of light

Turning around to keep seeking right!

The roof has caved in

The fence has fallen

The doors are hanging on their hinges

The windows only open a few inches!

Is this why I came here…

because it was you I wanted near?

Now, a strange light is streaking down my face

It never felt like a rose garden, in any case!

Even the mirror has its scars

But hope is rising like crescendos’ bars!

They tell me everyone needs someone to love

I didn’t ask anything from the stars above

You know, could this be my place of lasting refuge?

I know it may be a place that everyone else refused!

I think, yet, it is so well-defined

The grief in my soul can slowly unwind

And are these flowers meant for all the souls I cherished?

My love didn’t die even as all else perished!
