O dearest Gems of pets (!), when you had to go,
I, with the knowledge of your looming passing,
was filled with immense grief; feeling like a flame
of love being extinguished from my soul, suddenly
to become invisible, unrelatable (I feared!)
As if a gamopetalous entity of endearment
was being shrivelled out to be shorn away!
But I realised such despair is only an encroachment
on the joy of celebrating a sad event in its
wholesome effective beauty. That love is rekindled for love
of the subject, even if the subject of the love is absent!
And I know true love is an experience of imparting
between the soulfulness of one to the other, without being
didactic! So epitomised in your mute speechlessness,
my dearest pets, expressing love in its abundance!
Had I not seen the lessons of love exemplified in Mum
and Dad, in an unobvious silence of sacrificial gestures!
And I know that departure is only a doorway! The
myriad remembrance of love keeps streaming in
like light from the windows!
