You know, an empire began
with the lust of a dragon
for a mortal woman
on the shores of time
and the Kings were called haloed!
You know, the giants manifested
with the gods being
tempted to crave for
human carnality; that we should, then,
have incurred the curse of the deluge!
You know, the universe exploded
into being, with the rapine
of the point of singularity!
You know, so many great wars
in mythology were fought
over stolen and abducted beautiful women!
Can we tell the magi from the magne (men)
on the map of humanity, then?
Why do I look for beginnings?
Why? Is it because the ends are so
unpredictable and so long-drawn
and protracted? What can I imagine
what becomes of love, when it is
a misfit of the moment? Does it
survive the moment itself
and conflagrates as a mutual clap in the
distance of time and space; if there was a star
picking me out over the clouds
to shake me off my, sometimes, failure of faith
and put me back under the penumbra
of new convictional beliefs, so that
I become resonant and consonant
with the tides of destiny?!…So that
I stand the tests of time through all
the seeming permanence of injustice
in the seeming continuum of its pre-eminence in existence!
And I stop asking in askance:
Does destiny ever arrive?
But abide in the ashram of faith
despite all the prestidigitation of evil
And like the disparate uncommunicable divided diaspora
including Ashkenazim and Sephardim and all those
lost, purged and defeated but enduring souls of
threatened and oppressed and disappearing Jews,
still be betokened by their confident faith
and believe in the future re-manifestation of beloved Beulah!
