Midnight rider: A poem

(Based on the song Midnight rider by Greg Allman)

You can keep your views; I’m always subtly in the news

Between my worthy muse and some other selfish ruse!

I’m not going to dastardly hide in the pews

Cause I’m racing along emblazoning the night

Giving all the ominous stars their extra bit of light

If you should think I crumbled because blight is my plight!

I’m certainly not going to make the world any tidier

I’m just not going to let them catch the midnight rider!

Yes, you can keep searching far and wider!

It’s gonna be a hopeless task for your law; that’s my rider!

For you want to retain your untruths; don’t judge me, for, justice is my guider!

So, I am not going to be your compromised, compliant abider

No, they ain’t gonna catch the midnight rider!

And I am definitely not going to stop at your pubs for a happy beer or apple cider!

No, they aint gonna catch me, even if my bed will never be made of down of eider!
