A poem to a new friend: A poem

You know these words we extract out of intellect

like sculpted statues, if they were painstakingly

carved out, but, unlike statues do not last. For even

in their impervious solidity, they dissipate like filigree

of air. I am just about to tell you that: Is intellect

an artefact that keeps a conversation going for

hours? But I tell you, instead, something more honest –

that I have come to feel so confident in you. Is it simply

male-to-male(?); or are males compulsively intellectual

homosexuals, with a numinousness, with the ones they

identify with? I may for a long time have not stumbled upon

anyone that I could have a stable confiding bonding with.

Is this just a temporary accommodation, a convenient friendship

struck so late in my life as an accidental adventure? The orthography

of friendship is frail, isn’t it( in definition)?; if we’d rather not define it.

Yet, it doesn’t have to be compliant, but challenging, according to

me . So, I add as an addendum, that things can get difficult.

I think, in a matter of a month, I took the plunge to invest in you

with my emotional sensibilities. I didn’t shallow for long in

testing the roughage of you. I just grew to belong to that

space of fraternal identity. Our skin is of different colour,

our pasts are so starkly exclusive of a similarity of material

experience, our opinions reek of dissimilitude. I am fantastic,

you pragmatic. We are just like opposite corners of a room

resplendent in non-identical  décor. But what do we see in common

in the moments that we spend together, before you go your way

and I go mine?
